Chase Elliot snagged his first NASCAR Cup Series title at Phoenix Raceway. He became the third youngest Cup Series champion in NASCAR history. Multiple failures in the pre-race inspection put Elliot at the back of the pack, but he was able to move up to the third position by the end of Stage One of the race. He then moved up to second by the end of Stage Two, and took over in the final stage of the race. Chase Elliot had a 6.577 second victory over Ryan Blaney in the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway, which earned him a position in the NASCAR Cup Series Championship finale.
