2005 Indianapolis 500 - Highlights


The 89th running of the Indianapolis 500 witnessed the first female driver in Indy history to lead laps during the race when Danica Patrick led three separate times for a total of 19 laps. There was a total of eight caution flags brought out due to accidents and one smoking car. Patrick took the lead with 10 laps to go before Dan Wheldon took over the lead with 7 laps to go. A crash with 1 1/2 laps to go brought out the yellow flag and enabled Wheldon to win the race under caution.
